A sad situation happened in my neck of the woods. An MS/Pioneer got drunk & went drag racing against another car. The other car lost control and all 4 teens died. The JW was the son of a very prominent elder. The entire family switched congregations, as far as I know he was never disciplined by a JC and the family hired a high profile lawyer who got the four counts of involuntary manslaughter dropped. I know he got several years of probation. To his credit, the JW was really distraught over his role. The local newspapers had a field day and reported that JWs were involved.

thrown for a loop by Elder
by integ in'just when i'm about to get out, they keep pulling me back in"- godfather 3.. this quote does'nt truly apply to me, but just when i am convinced there are absolutely no redeemable qualities about the borg this really nice elder comes up to me and very calmly tells me how much i am loved and missed at the meetings, to not feel any pressure, and that jehovah will always be there for me, and that he (the elder) would too.
he had a very calm, serene, quality about him.
came off as truly "spiritual".

Integ,
I understand how you feel. A well meaning 'sister' called me the other day, begging me to return, that she loves and misses me, ect. I believe she was sincere. Just as I know that she would sincerely shun me if she knew the half of what I don't believe anymore. I was reading a novel that had a character say 'The only people Jehovah's Witnesses like is other Jehovah's Witnesses!' Now that's the truth. I am amazed how warm, loving sincere people can turn on eachother in a heart beat if the borg tells them too. As others have already said, there are good JW's, I know a few and I will always love them. It doesn't change the fact that they belong to a religion that destroys lives.

your catch phrase
by SpiceItUp inso i'm sitting here at work and it just dawned on me that i use the same phrase over and over subconsciously.
in my job i have lots of people that thank me on the phone and for some reason instead of saying "your welcome" (which i do use occasionally) i say "not a problem" or "no problem".. what is your little catch phrase that you subconsciously use?.

How has the org changed you emotionally?
by obiwan ini'm just wondering how everyone was changed by the wts emotionally.
i find that after going through being df'd and the shunning, the general loss of everything that i'm much harder, i give people less sympathy than i used to, things that are seriuos such as deaths and the like just don't move me much.
i feel desensitized, sorta detached i let so much just roll off my back than i used to.

Strangely enough, I'm far more compassionate, less uptight, not judgemental like I used to be as a dub, I don't look down on people anymore just because of their beliefs. And funny thing is, I have more faith in God now than I ever did in all my years in the borg! Now the thought of stepping foot in a church gives me the heebee geebees but I have more of a personal relationship with God now than I ever did as a JW. I'm much happier, feel lighter as if a great weight has been lifted. I don't dread Sundays anymore. I laugh a lot more now. I'm nicer to my non JW family and they've noticed. The only thing I have trouble with is trusting non JW men romantically. (Not that dub men are much better!) I'm very guarded and sometimes I worry that I won't give a good man a chance from all the 'don't date outside of the Lord' crap I was force fed for years. So yeah, trust is an issue but only with the men. I've made a few female non dub friends who I'm really close to. It took years of depression, anger and fear for me to reach this point. I've learned to let go and take my life back. JW's in general are emotionally stunted, I know I felt numb for years and now I feel everything - happiness, pain, joy - I feel human again. I'm so thankful to be out! - Victorian Sky

Did you cheat on your monthly report?
by JH ini was always honest with my field service reports, until the time when an elder came over to give me hell because i had only 1 hour that month in the field service.
i told him that i was working 50 hours a week, had a 4 day district convention that month and couldn't do miracles that month.
he never accepted my explanation.. .

Ah,Confessions of a cheatin' ex reg. pioneer - Hell yeah I fudged my report sometimes by 30 hours! I counted everything from getting dressed for service to starting up my car before dawn for street work. (Like there was anyone to talk to at 6 in the moring!) I felt awful at the time but that didn't stop me from doing it 'cause by Laud I had a dub image to uphold! My pioneer pals did the same thing, some by as much as 70 hours! So the boasting of what is it a billion hours worldwide? Whatever numbers they spew it's bull s@#! Funny that the Bible never mentions Jesus and the Apostles put in their time, doubt Jehovah asked his son for a service report before he handed him the crown! Isn't it great to be free. - Victorian Sky

Changing Truth........
by integ ini was at the book study last night and the elder conducting was talking about the old assemblies, like 1935, when rutherford exhorted everyone with an earthly hope to stand up, and half the crowd stood up, then rutherford said "behold the great crowd" or something to that effect, which was a departure to previous doctrine of one distinct class of salvation inheritors.
to which the elder conducting commented "we see here how jehovah has been progressively revealing his truth to the faithful and discreet slave class all through the ages"...he then said "we'll just have to see what changing truth is revealed at our next assembly...i'm sure we are all looking forward to these new truths".
are'nt we all on this forum looking forward to these 3 days of spirtual nourishment?

I was a Reg pioneer when I went to see my first rated R movie. I was so nervous but I enjoyed the movie too much to leave, (Sleeping with the Enemy). Then my plunge into corruption continued with "The Bodyguard." Since then I've seen loads of R movies and some of the others frowned upon like Harry Potter (I've read all the books! Love 'em) and Lord of the Rings. At my last 'gathering' a young elder complained bitterly about how Satan is misleading people by the demonic Lord of the Rings, well I spoke up and said, 'What's wrong with it? It's a great movie and I can't wait for the next one!' He couldn't tell me specifically what was wrong with it, then confessed that he and his wife saw it! I couldn't help but laugh. Theyreally need to get a grip, it's entertainment and you know what? It hasn't lead me to an immoral lifestyle and demons don't make stuff fly around in my house. Amazing how the GB choke the living out of life. - Victorian Sky

Back from the Memorial
by ScoobySnax inwell like i say, just got back from the memorial, have been going most years, but this year i went by chance (knew it was roughly at 7pm at the nearest kh) to my old congregation that i grew up in.
i didn't find the "evil" people spoke of here on this forum, or those too stupid to see.
all i did see was people i hadn't seen in years, and let me tell you, what lovely people they were.

Victorian sky
Very interesting, Tell me Scoob, did you feel like a hypocrite for going to the Memorial when you read and post on this site? 'Cause I bet if you told those same 'friends' about our forum and your part on it you'd feel the 'love' turn into an artic blast. Just before you start accusing me of being a hater, there are many people I love who are still JWs, including family. I haven't lost them like many here on this forum so when you reply on the forum, please have a little compassion because you don't want to go through the pain and neither do I. Also, for the first time in my life, I didn't attend the memorial, it was a strange feeling a mix of good and bad. I don't believe this is the truth. But whether you think so or not, you are right, there are good JW's - just as there are good people in all religions but that doesn't make it right! Most on this forum are good people too who have had their hearts broken by the loving JWs, where is your empathy? - Victorian Sky
